I have no ties to these people and you can see this level of work at the Guild conventions by a number of people. BUT - this is the sort of talent that makes Euro work look like something I did.

The stocks themselves are not for everyone, or me, but the product quality is pretty amazing.

Considering the wood it's on and the guns the wood is on, I'd assume that she has to be a master and in demand. Somehow, the fotos don't do it justice (I hope!). Maybe the incidence of the lighting is normal to the surface or the mineral streaks visible thru the clean, transparent finish compete with the panels for attention. The border on the fleur de lis'd boxlock cheek has hardness in the curves (running with the grain?) and looks like something I might actually be able to do on the best day I'll ever have (and that's no compliment). Also JMHO.

With all do respect, she isn't near the level of Kathy Forster in design and execution.

this person is doing complicated patterns that might be over her head right now. Kathy Forster, Pat Tayler, Sherry Abrahams,TK Gibson(i hope i have the spelling correct)all do this work at a much higher level. jmho mc

judging from the lack of over runs maybe the person should try
checkering some higher quality wood that would allow them to
showcase their skills better with smaller LPI giving room for
refining curves etc

always room to improve
for most of us anyway

except some of those mentioned and a few others
good luck to all starving artists

It is good work. Ever looked at anything done on the continent? The highest grade Granger I ever saw was being completed the last time I was in St. Etienne, and the owner had elected not to have the two pieces of burl checkered. Smart man.
That said, it isn't truly great work. Many are the guns from the houses of the best, that don't have truly great work, either.
I would add the woman who does checkering at Ahlman's Custom gun to the list of very good checkering people, Kathy, I think, is her name.
Best,
Ted

The stock styles that she is working on would be difficult to design patterns for imho, with all their ungainly lines to balance. I've always thought the checkering on high grade Lefevers and Remington double shotguns were the epitome of design and execution. But of course, these guns had graceful stock lines to start with for the most part.

Frankly, some guns need checkering to hold on to the unusual grips but many guns do not need checkering at all. I have always felt that checkering leads to insanity, so I don't comment on anyone's abilities.

You should have given it, or something, up sooner!

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

And as far as the quality of that work goes, I would have no problem with anyone looking at it if it were on any of my guns.
If I could afford it and had stocks good enough to warrant it, which I don't.
