This triggerplate gun has a small spring at the rear bottom of each chamber. Can anyone give an idea about what the springs accomplish. I have never seen this before.

I had a DM that Oscar ended up with and it did not have the springs.

They may be to hold the cartridge in while the gun is open.

When I field trial I often open the gun up for safety. Of course the shells fall out if I don't do something. To prevent that I bite down on the shot end of the cartridges to make them oblong and then they stay put - stole that idea from EightBore.

Best,

Mike

Mike, thanks for the recognition. I think your conclusion about the Lefever may be correct.

Is there anything that Mr. lefever didn't think of when designing a gun?

Mike and all, I think you may have something there. I'll shoot the gun this p.m. and see if the 100+ year old idea works. I don't know about biting the end of the shell, though----------well, maybe, but not with my good teeth.

Yes, that's what I mean, but I won't have to worry which teeth if you are right on the D M Lefever. Other guns, maybe I'll squash my reloader sizer a bit.

One day on the Parker Forum someone was posting about safety and hammerguns and shells falling out when the gun was left open. I posted about how the squashed ends from my inept reloading kept them in. Bill chimed in about biting the ends.

I field trial with factory 12 gauge shells and so have to bite them.

Best,

Mike

Mike, I wonder if , besides having gun loaders, the rich guys had bullet biters.
