I just bought a pair of guns, including an Ithica/SKB 200E 20-ga. Special Skeet with very nice engraving and a 12-ga. marked New SKB Gun Co. Model 400, side-plated boxlock with choke tubes. Both are like new with the original boxes and the price was too good to pass even though I have no real need for them. I have a couple other regular 200E's but this one is much nicer so I'll probably use it for my occasional round of skeet.
My question is on the Model 400. I cannot seem to find any information on this gun in my internet searches. I find some Model 400's that are true boxlocks but noe with the side-plates and choke tubes. Anyone know anything about these? Maybe approximate dates of manufacture, some guess as to value, etc?

Researcher provided definitive information on the 400 line, including pages from the 1979 Ithaca catalogue, about six or eight months ago.

I can't seem to locate this using the search function - likely due to my minimal computer skills.
Is there an easy way to get to these old posts?

My skills are no better than yours, Ted. I made an inquiry for a buddy's 12ga Model 400 with AE SK both barrels "Handcrafted by SKB."
I remember it showed up first in the 1979 catalogue and by 1980-81 Ithaca catalogue the SKB was gone. There were no offerings to value.
My buddy bought his 400 for $CAN1400 but that's here in the boonies and not there. They were considered SKB's top of the line at the time.

Ted, if the Model 400 has factory tubes and isn't marked either Ithaca or Mitsui, then it's a gun from the late 80's. For a fairly brief period of time, SKB brought in some sxs back then. Fairly similar to the old Ithaca imports, but with a higher gloss finish to the wood, blued barrels rather than black chrome, and choke tubes. The side-plated 400 was the more expensive gun. There was also a 200E, scalloped boxlock with game scenes and coin finish. Straight grip gun, which was confusing because the Ithaca-imported 200E's were PG guns. (The E was for ejector on the Ithaca guns; stood for English on the later ones.) I bought a couple of the 200E's in 20ga, brand new, backi in the late 80's. Good guns, although I still prefer the old Ithaca imports.
