I asked him how he determined a mfg. date of 1937; pointing out that it looked to me it was made between 1910-24. Also told him it was Belgian made gun. An unknowing person would think it was French.
Never answered me and still has it posted the same way with a bidder. The bidder may know and bid it anyway.

Belgian sourced gun peddled in Paris. The sidewise horseshoe around the chamber diameter & length(65mm) makes it post 1924 and if the "d" is the date code it would have been proofed in 1925. So if the chamber length is 70mm there has been some modification since it left the proofhouse. From the pics right off, I don't see chopperlump tubes.

It looks to me there is a * above the d. I thought the date letter had no other marks close to it.

One of a pair. Proofed late 1924 or early 1925. Renette was a dealer.

Pretty good read on the history of Gastinne-Renette at Littlegun's site: http://www.littlegun.be/arme%20francaise...enette%20gb.htm

I once owned a Petrik OU that was marked Gastinne Renette. As noted above, they marketed guns from various makers and sources. Belgian as well as French. Don't know for sure about guns from anywhere other than either Belgium or France, however. At least not marked with the Gastinne Renette name. Someone may well have other examples, however.

Other example:

Gun "peddler"? Don't think so.

Nifty marks JC. Is that a "Crown" over "GR" in an oval noting that Gastinne - Renette made the tubes. All firearms merchants were master gunsmiths. All master gunsmiths either made the transition to a firearms merchant or handed the reins to a successor. In keeping things in context, the example in question was sourced and G-R was more of a firearms merchant in the 1920s than a master gunsmith shop and it was pretty much due to economics. Many of the odd names and locations found on the top rib were mainly firearms merchants with a very small repair shop, which more than likely outsourced major repairs. Vienna sourced Suhl & Praha, who in turn sourced Wiepert and later Belgium. Paris was no different and I can't remember when the proofhouse closed but that had to be a result of the lack of examples passing thru the proofhouse after reciprocity was in place.
