Jimmy W. already said it on another thread, but
Today we....
Remember those who have fallen in service for our country...
Reaffirm our commitment, support, and prayers to those currently serving in the U.S. armed forces...
and Recognize those who have served, are retired; you guys deserve a special place of honor today.
Too often we take our freedoms for granted. May we never forget that nothing is free.
Thank you to all the vets on this board.

Been a very sad Memorial Day here. My old friend, Diana Grade Superposed and English Setter afficianado, Allan Thompson, Lcdr USN (ret) dropped dead yesterday. Momentarily I'm headed over to Idaho to pick up his little English Setter, Dashur --

Friends: In modest observance, and eternal rememberance: One of my greatest friends was a bat boy for the Detroit Tigers in the late 1930s. He joined the US 1st Division ("Big Red One"). when war broke out. He landed at Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 as a private, fought his way across the great battles of the ETO until May 1945 and mustered out as a Captain. After the war, he was one of the greatest graphic artitists in the Northern Hemisphere, a gentle wonderful man... and a racontouer of immeasurable legend. Here's to you, Doug. Your friend remembers.
Best, Kensal

Read this today and thought it was spot on. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/may/28/every-day-is-memorial-day/ " Every day is Memorial DayWe owe America's warriors who gave their lives for freedom " " I live to remember. I have not forgotten that America is still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, that our finest citizens have volunteered to put themselves in harm's way in the name of freedom. The media overall have done a grave disservice to our warriors and their families, who have been asked to sacrifice so much. The war is now barely covered by the media. Maybe so-called journalists have forgotten. The media have moved on." " We owe it to these brave Americans and their families to win this war with our honor intact, not to telegraph to the enemy when we are packing up and leaving the battlefield. I'm no military tactician, but announcing when we are leaving the battlefield is analogous to putting an ad in your local newspaper to let all local punks and thugs know when you are going on vacation so they can plunder your home. I stand with most Americans demanding a victory strategy, not an exit strategy. When we commit our troops to war, we must make a commitment to them and their families that we will achieve total victory through the application of total war."

I think It's important to note that the "President" is off vacationing in Illinois rather than attending memorial services at Arlington National Cemetary as his predecessors have done. I can't wait for the November elections. Jim

Well, to be fair, which is of so little importance these days, I'm told the ""President"" attended a Memorial Day service at a military cemetary in Illinois. One of his predecessors (and a decorated WWII bomber pilot) NEVER attended a Memorial Day service at Arlington National in the yrs. of his presidency (I'm told). So, what's the point? Devil in the details; little devil in their selection also.

Perhaps, But "W" sure did and he kept us safe, can B Hussian say the same? His "lets hope the bombs don't work" policy is not going to cut it. BTW, Pappa Bush is a true American WW II hero, no need, especially on this day to tarnish that ! Link from "W" s Memorial Day Arlington Address http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/05/recalling_a_bush_memorial_day.html"Today, we gather to honor those who gave everything to preserve our way of life. The men and women we honor here served for liberty. They sacrificed for liberty. And in countless acts of courage, they died for liberty. From faraway lands, they were returned to cemeteries like this one, where broken hearts received their broken bodies -- they found peace beneath the white headstones in the land they fought to defend. It is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom that the number of headstones in a place such as this grows with every new Memorial Day. In a world where freedom is constantly under attack and in a world where our security is challenged, the joys of liberty are often purchased by the sacrifices of those who serve a cause greater than themselves. Today we mourn and remember all who have given their lives in the line of duty. Today we lift up our hearts especially to those who have fallen in the past year."

Yes, 42 did his duty for his country and he stands head and shoulders above the offspring AND Obama there. It is unimportant to remember that he didn't do pretty much what Obama is damned for not doing. It is also unimportant in Obama's case. What's sauce for the goose.

Ahh but there is indeed a difference. Obama skipped it to go back to Chicago for another vacation (and there are reports of a meeting with Farakan) http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/06/abc_bashes_bush_on_memorial_da_1.html"In neither year was Bush on vacation for Memorial Day. And it is nice that we are able to recall Bush's eloquence, given the unfortunate circumstances that prevented us from hearing from President Obama this year"
