What's a fair price these days? I was offered on about 5 years ago for $5K can't remember if it was 26 or 28"
There seem to be more than a few available at asking prices $5K and above in 20 gauge, but they are always 26" and never seem to sell. So, what's fair? Hard to tell because all the market can tell us is that it's below $5K. Saw one recently, nice gun in great condition, 20 ga with 26" barrels for high $3's (maybe $3800). That one was not moving quickly either. Same holds for BSS boxlocks in Grade II; sellers asking outrageous prices and nothing is selling. When you get right down to it, there are a lot of Grade I BSS boxlocks on the market at what would have been an OK price two years ago, and they are not moving, either. If sellers are serious, they need to drop prices or be willing to sit on the gun until the market catches with their idea of "fair."
