Now I know this is going to sound a bit strange, but bear with me. I have a cape gun with various game scene engravings. I was looking at it a little closer today and noticed that the dog looked very familiar to me. I think I remember seeing a just about identically engraved dog on a Lindner Daly that someone posted a picture of here. Now I know you are probably thinking that most of these dogs look pretty similar, but I think it could have been done by the same hand. So those of you with Lindners engraved with a dog: does the dog on yours look anything like this (specifically the face): I am just curious. Hopefully that doesn't sound too crazy. I also don't know the maker so was hoping to peg it to an area or region by engraving (long shot with many flaws, I know)

I think I remember the gun/dog you are referring to but really don't think the same hand did both... not giving you a zinger but no where near the quality.

I agree with you on quality. I can picture the other one in my minds eye and the face looks so darn identical it had me wondering.

The dogs in question, look like a long tailed Vizula. Wonder if the engraver was from around the Czechoslovakia area. Dog would have a longer coat if a German Long Hair. Still better than some of the "flying turnips".

Try right clicking on picture. Save Picture As, save to desktop. Open on desktop and on the bottom should be a magnifier, one to enlarge and one to decrease. You will be able to increase size to see that the dog looks like the other one.

I have owned a couple of Lindner Daly "dogs". I guess that is not the discussion of the day. However, nice as some of the floorplate dogs are on hammerless Lindners, I can't quite abide the droop headed and droop tailed versions. There are both great looking pointing dogs and droop ended dogs on the floorplates of guns in the same era. In the real world, finding birds is more important than classy points, but when engraving a gun, I would prefer a classy looking point. I especially like the perky eared posture of the George Ulrich setters that look like puppies pointing their first birds.
