I believe that. There are some fine quality guns out there with engravings that are just wrong, some of the birds and dogs are hideous.

On the L.C. Smith Maker of Baker Shotguns trigger guard, I'm guessing the engraver was Jacob Glahn, who in my opinion was one of the best dog engravers then. I also think Albert Kraus, another great dog engraver, studied under him in the early years. Some of Kraus's work on high grade L.C. Smiths is fabulous.
