In Ackleys loading book he states there is a problem fire forming post war brass. He recomends forming new cases from 30/30 or 32 special. He compares it to the 250/300 and 257 roberts in performance. Once you form the cases they will give you long service which should absorb the expense of the loading dies and effort. i have yet to loose or trim one of my 7mm cases. Been using them as long as i've had the gun. Being a takedown it should be easy to start with a chamber cast. I would use the 30/30 so i could turn the necks.
lots of luck

Setting the barrel back is not needed for rimmed AI cartridges. The shoulder is often moved far forward, not just a steeper angle and wider shoulder diameter as in rimless cartridges.

Hmmmm guy on ASSRA site asks if the .25-35 ammo for sale is smokeless or black powder...??? Was .25-35WCF ever factory-loaded in black powder??? Is there another black powder .25-35 I don't know about? (Stevens? Maynard?).

They never made a .25-35 BP factory round. All .25-35's were smokeless. Of course the .25-35 was WInchester's way of stealing yet another cartridge from Marlin after Marlin brought out the .25-36 Marlin, and Win. made a cartridge(.25-35) that was slightly smaller so it could be loaded in a Marlin chamber, but not the reverse. smile
