I just bought this rifle at auction. http://www.auctionarms.com/search/displayitem.cfm?ItemNum=9749450I have several Martinis but I've never heard of this brand. My feeling is that it might be Belgian. Does anyone have any information on it? Is there any hope of find a rear sight to fit that mortise in the wrist of the stock? Thanks

I glanced at the rifle the other day while looking at another they had for sale. The adjustments on the rear sight and the tang sight base plugs use a clock key just like several German target rifles I have. So many of those rifles have several countries of origin. It would not surprise me to find that the action is Belgian with the finished rifle and sights coming from Germany.

HWZ is Herstaller Weihrauch Zella-Mehlis, 1934-38, they were a German firm. I have a Haenel type dropping block that is very nicely made, it is marked model 29. Dixie Gun Works had a sight that would work, will probable need modification, I have one on mine. If you need more information let me know.

Congrats on a lovely rifle. Way cool little Martini with some interesting Teutonic features, including the grooved barrel for the rear sight and the base for the German style peep sight.

The gun came today. It's as nice as the photos depict. The dovetail on the barrel is about 10 inches long. That's what the rear open sight is mounted on. I'm going to try to find an aperture sight or scope base to fit that dovetail. I actually have a target aperture sight with a dovetail mount, but it is too small for the rifle. I'll do some research after I measure it carefully.
Thanks for all the help.

You might contact Gary Fellers or Ken Bean, both of whom specialize in iron sights. One of them might have a peep sight or scope rings that fit the dovetail.

The dovetail on the barrel sounds like the one on the gun I have. Brownells has a set of scope rings that will work, the dovetail is a little wider than the 3/8 one on a 22 rifle

I should also mention that both Fellers and Bean occasionally have the Germanic rear peep sight assemblies that fit (or will need some minor fitting to fit) that rear peep sight base on the tang of your rifle.

The dovetail measures .493 across the top. I temporarily mounted a Weaver 2.5X scope with a Litchert 8X multiplier in a set of cheap rings. It looks like it was always there except for the aluminum rings. It is very accurate. I'll hsve to look for the Brownells rings and a rear aperture sight. Thanks everyone for the help.

Tang sight I've fitted this sight to an Aydt and another German single shot.
