with their light barrels, tight chambers and tight chokes next to light english game guns old german guns are about the worst candidates for use with steel shot. i have seen japanese ithaca-skb 200 with severely scratched barrels in the choke area but no visible bulge damage. i suspect that gun has been damaged by what they call 'shredder' load ie civilian version of military flechette load loaded by imperial of canada the french and local hobos. local hobo loads with arrows stacked in both directions to pack more into a shell are particularly offensive to the shotgun barrel.

Jagermeister they have made improvements to the quality of wads used in steel shot cartridges recently but they haven't figured out how to get steel to compress and flow through chokes without bridging and bulging bores the way lead, bismuth and tungsten matrix does. Lack of lethality aside that is why I don't shoot steel at any game or in any gun with barrels not specifically designed for it.

exactly...steel sometimes bridges, softer stuff does not. If it is a decent gun with good bores, why chance it?
