As I said about nine pages in on the other thread -- My take on this gun, and I can speculate as good as the next guy, is that old Wilber had this returned A1-Special to unload, and he greased some well heeled customer with the "you can have a gun made for the Czar story." This gun has no special engraving, no Romanoff double-headed eagle, no Nikki II crest, and no rib appelation. Nothing like the Brothers P did for President Benj. Harrison. My bet is old Wilber had read the press on the Marlin pump for the Czar and with the spark that this gun had originally been ordered by a Russian Col. made the rest up as a sales ploy to hook this well to do customer! The Ulrich engraved Marlin had the Romanoff Eagle in gold on the right side, the Russian Bear rampant protecting her cubs in gold on the left side, and on top the Czar's personal crest (N II) inlaid in platinum.
The gun is a rightious A1-Special, with a replacement stock, and an interesting sales history.

Now, If there was a way to find out if Shellhamer did the Re-Stocking????Maybe with my 'Trustie-Turnscrews'Ground to fit Parker screw-slots)JR LaRue Esq. maybe able to 'shed some more Light' on this'Magnificent Example of European& American Gunmakers efforts to build a 'Gun' that would stand alongside all the previous 'Weapons' that were 'Gifted' to 'Aristocrats, both in America and the Continent!!! (If I Come Around the 2nd Time,I Want to Pick My Parents!!)..cc.

Older "Doc",(Who by the way is much Younger than XChisels),posted some more of my pics'from "The Museum of Perpetual Mess"Continental File...If only'Fred' the engraver at Parker Bros in 1914, had inlaid Czar Nicholas ll (As the top lever on the German O/U D/Rifle has,) This Parker No 168304, would be in the Million Plus $$$$$ to-day!! Do we know who the Gent in the cloak is, sitting next to Czar N 11 in the back seat of the Carriage? Someone from the House of Hanover maybe? The Photo of the 'Bavarian' Hunting Party' look as they are about to "Crack a Keg"! cc.

Older Doc-
Nice Ruski Purdey.
A friend of mine has one of those - or had, I'm not sure. I have some pics of it somewhere.
What's the story on yours?

Mr Sergey Lyalko served a couple of years at the Tula Gunsmithing School,He lives in Mass. and has been very helpfull with the Translation of printed matter,From Russian to American and is a Fine Gunsmith, has articals in The American Gunsmith Magazine. c/c
