Bought a Jeffery BLNE 32 inch barrel shotgun. It's serial number is 34368. It has Birmingham proof marks. Could someone please tell about its probable year of manufacture. ![](http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/8498/img6196cl.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us Barrel Flats ![](http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1493/img6175x.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us![](http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2645/img6177u.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us![](http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9185/img6181c.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.usWas it normal to blue the bottom plate and opening level in contrast to receiver? ![](http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/1746/img6197wm.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us![](http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/4539/img6199i.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us![](http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/314/img6202e.jpg) Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The marks on the flats fall in the 1904-1925 era. But just ahead of the flats on the underside of the right Delcour-Dupont(6.06.1921?? trademark-not Doumoulin?) sourced tube is the stamp of a crown over the interlaced "BP" beside a set of inverted crossed scepters and a "c". I have a Turner with the same contrasting floorplate.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

My old W&C Scott 16, made in 1912 and in original finish, has a blued lever and floorplate. As I recall, the trigger guard was blued also.

The 1910-1911 Jeffery,s catalogue illustrates your gun.It is described as a "Long Range" Hammerless, Pigeon and Wildfowl gun.The price is listed at 12 pounds 12 shillings.By comparison in the same catalogue, Jefferies best gun is listed at 55 pounds. The catalogue states that the barrels are made from "Herakles" Compound gun barrel steel.Your gun appears to be proof tested to 1 1/2 ozs, shot. According to the specs;in the catalogue your gun should weigh in at between 8-9 pounds. The gun illustrated in the catalogue is identical to yours. I am unable to help with the date of manufacture beyond that provide by others based on the proof marks.

Can't help you with dating the Jeffrey, but I too have a Thomas Turner with blued floorplate, toplever and trigger guard and a now silver (originally case colored) action.

Nigel Brown Vol. 1 puts the date of manufacture at 1928-29. The chamber length is stamped which is post 1925 so this seems to confirm that date. Terry
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, than open it and confirm.

Email [email: http://www.wjjeffery.co.uk/] http://www.wjjeffery.co.uk/[/email]. They put me in touch with the guy that has the records and once or twice a year he sends out info photocopied from the original records. Sorry, not sure why it posted the email so funky. http://www.wjjeffery.co.uk/

Thanks a ton guys! This board is a wonderful place indeed. Very useful info as always.
One more question, were the barrel flats and lugs blued originally on English guns? In other words, blued lugs and flats mean re-blued barrels?
@Roy, Sir can you kindly post a scan of that page from catalog? I will be highly obliged

Raimey rse Sir, please elaborate. What is Delcour-Dupont? How come the date 6.06.1921? What does crossed scepters mean?

Saad, the flats on the barrels will be blacked along with the whole barrel; it is that sometimes the blacking is polished off on some guns and not on others. I'm sure you are aware not to use modern 3" cartridges in this gun. It should be o.k. with 2 3/4" mini magnums if CIP approved. Jeffery had all his guns made for him in the Trade and never actually made them himself. Lagopus.....
