Steven,
I thought I was the last person on earth using 175gr bullets in my 7X57. Every gun writer seems to prefer 140gr bullets. I used my BRNO Mannlicher 7MM with Hornady 175s for at least 30 years and rarely have needed a second shot.

The last time I handloaded, nearly fifty years ago, was for a 7x57 G&H Winchester 54 and I used 160 grain spitzers. Have some still but don't have the boxes and don't recall the make. Shot a big deer on Anticosti Island. Quartering away from me at a dead run, offhand, maybe 100 yards. Lyman 48. I was a pretty good shot in those days.

My initial 'go-to' load for any 7x57 involves the 154-gr Hornady. That particular bullet has proven to be one of the most consistent performers for me in a number of military barrels and it's reasonably good on medium game up to 300 lbs. It's not always THE most accurate in every barrel but it's proven to be very consistent, to the point where I try it first and if the rifle won't shoot it then I trade it off 'cause it probably won't shoot anything else either.
Regards, Joe
