As the title says, I have a 101 Supergrade that was nearly mint. I shot a round of skeet with it and then cleaned it as usual. I put it back in to its fitted luggage case and it stayed there about 2 weeks. I took it out and the side that was down against the fabric has a thousand "freckles" ( for lack of a better term). I believe these were rust and when I cleaned the fine orange powder off with an oil rag, I was left with the black freckles as I call them. The receiver is not blue but neither is it stainless but it does have the appearance of stainless. Does anyone know of a place that could refinish this? I really cannot stand the rust spots. I'm not concerned with any collector value, its a shooter. I just don't want it looking this badly.

Try 4-ought steel wool and WD-40; the 'freckles' will disappear like magic leaving the blue like new...Geo

It's not blue and steel wool, WD 40, break free and Kroil didn't help. Thanks though.

Before you go to a refinish, try a pad of stainless steel (kitchen scrubbing pads work well) and any decent oil (or Hoppe's #9). That will often remove stuff that regular steel wool will not get, and it has not harmed any finish that I have tried it on.
If you have to refinish, call Midwest Gun Works in MO.

Art's Gun and Sport (www.artsgunshop.com) in Hillsboro, MO refinished a Classic Doubles 101 (successor to Winchester for importing and selling the 101 shotguns) last year for me.
The gun was well used and had rust freckles, was a little loose, and had well worn wood and finish. The gun came back from Art's looking absolutley spectacular! Art tightened the action, reblued the metal, recut the checkering, and refinished the wood. I would bet my gun looks better after Art's refinish than it did brand new. Art had the gun about 9 months.
I wouldn't hesitate to use Art's refinishing service again.

UPDATE Thanks to Shinbone for the tip on Art's. Got my 101 back today after less than a 6 week stay at Art's. This gun was not refinished. It was restored to better than factory finish. Art did superb work for a very reasonable price and in a super reasonable time frame. I've seen a lot of work done on some fine guns, but I've never seen better work than Art did. I'd highly recommend him to anyone wishing to have cosmetic work done on a gun. Simply awesome work and a pleasure to do business with. By the way,as it turns out, the finish was Silver Nitride.

Next time try polishing with Birchwood Casey's lead rag. It is what Kreighoff recomends for their nickel and nitride finish. Works REAL good!!
