Hi folks, I've been following you Gents for a number of years, decided t'was time to join. I've a question regarding one of my SXS's. A V. Bernardelli "VB Holland" I've had for a number of years and haven't been able to find out much about it. It is a two barrel set, 12 gauge, double trigger, front articulated trigger. Appears to be fancy English Walnut stock & beaver tail fore end, checkered about 30 LPI. #1 barrel (Marked as such, in a gold square 1) measures a hair under 26 3/4", #2 barrel (marked as above) measures a hair over 29". Both are marked as such. R.B. "Acciaio Speciale Extra" on top, L.B. "V. Bernardelli Gardone V.T. On left side barrel marked "Made in Italy". Receiver and locks are coin finished & 100% engraved with a "Floral"pattern. Markings on tang for safety are"Sicura". Straight grip, trigger guard 90% engraved & blued. One other little point, the teardrop at the rear of the side lock, appears to be Ebony. Thanks for any information you may have, in advance. I know pictures help but, I would need much help posting them. Maybe down the road. Thanks in advance. Martin 1940D28

The question should have been, "Is the "Sicura" marking on the tang used on all their guns and, were they at all marked with the Importers name?" Thanks again, Martin 1940D28

"Sicura" is Italian for Safety. "Acciaio Speciale Extra" is Extra Special Steel. As a rule, Italian makers regularly change sourcing for their barrels. This sounds generic enough that they be of Italian origin. Impossible to be sure without pictures, but is sounds like one of the top end guns. There should be a date stamp on the watertable. They may also simply have the date stamped. If the gun predates WWII, there may not be any records available. You can contact them at: Vincenzo Bernardelli S.r.l. via Achille Grandi, 10 25030 Torbole Casaglia (BS) Tel. +39 0302151094 Fax +39 0302150963 bernardelli@bernardelli.com http://www.bernardelli.com/en/contatti.htmlPete

The importer's name was required, I believe, after the 1968 Gun Control Act. However, a lot of importers stamped their guns even before that.
Your gun is a true sidelock, and one of the top end models. All V. Bernardelli guns are pretty darned good, but the majority of them we see in this country are sideplated boxlocks from their "Roma" series.
I don't think all Bernardelli safeties were marked "sicura". Can't say for sure, but I think that some destined for this country were marked "safe".

I have a Bernardelli Gamecock manufactured in the early 1970s ('73, if I recall correctly). It says "safe", not "sicura". Can't remember the importer's name, and it's home, while I'm at work.

R40, if it's a Gamecock, I think it would have been a Stoeger import. That was their name, if I recall correctly, for what Bernardelli called an S. Uberto 1.

Thanks for the many replies, info I've been after for a while. No provisions for a sling on the VB Holland, my 20 gauge Italia hammer gun does have sling swivels. I'll have to get help from my son for posting a picture or two. Thanks again, Martin 1940D28
