I have been in a bunch of them and the improved version isn't bad. More parts than a Fox but fewer than Purdy, L C Smith, Stevens, Iver Johnson,J P Saur. Never had a sear problem on a Parker but Smith and Fox liked to double on me.

Well, you can look at a wood model or cutaway gun and "see" what's in a Parker. When you take one apart, you do get to "experience" it, as KR says. Mr. Akins sent me a tip on hammer removal which again is somewhat contrary to the J. B. Wood sequence. Every bit helps. I have been in a few cold and I don't think that's the way to approach the Parker mechanism(s).

I only have one Parker, a VH that I bought very reasonably a couple years ago. The metal is very good and it is tight, but the buttstock has been cut and is way too short for me and it also has the often seen repair crossbolt through the stock cheeks. I hope to find time to restock it soon and wonder if anyone has any advice on preventing this cracking that causes many of these guns to be screwed or bolted together.

best way to keep the stock on any old gun from cracking is to keep the screws tight and shoot light loads.
