More info on the blown Baker. First, on the origin of the barrels that Stallones has fitted to the gun. After the incident, I tried to locate a suitable replacement barrel and finally made contact with a Baker collector at a gunshow in southern Michigan. I bought the twist barrel from him and didn't get to the fitting stage before I sold the Gun. This project has many "twists" and turns. Secondly, Specific to the incident. Gun was only one hour out of the packing box. Brother and I thoroughly looked over the gun, measured chokes, fit, condition etc. Walked out behind his barn to toss a few clays with the hand trap. Ammo was Remington reloads from a PW press. There was no 16or20 stuck in the bore. I didn't think Reminton shed its base wad as has been reported of the Win.AA. Anyone hear of Reminton STS shedding its base wad? We recovered the shot wad in the lawn with the others and it was in two pieces. I'm not too sure the clay wasn't busted on this shot. All indications was a failure of the metal at the forcing cone area. We've shot K's of reloads from this press without incident of overcharge. Any number of things could have happened, but metal failure is at the top of the list. Randy

That was and is my opinion as well Randy based on what the photo shows with excessive chamber-cone grinding and the lack of wall thickness at the cone junction............

The seller probably did not disclose that the chambers had been butchered when you bought the gun, as so many do today, otherwise you would not have bought it.......?.........If you were shooting STS, then did it have 2.75" damascus chambers that you knew about......?.........

There's absolutely no question the metal failed. The question is, why? STS's . . . no, should not have been a base wad issue. And you'd know it if the shot cup didn't clear the barrel, because the previous load would've sounded pretty much like a cap gun.

Still, that hull in the blown chamber looks weird. Almost looks like it was the cause of the rupture rather than the result.

As I recall when this subject was talked about before, the shell brass head and primer showed a lot of impression from the breech face. The area around the primer was sort of "flatened" showing the effects of high pressure, which would not be caused by simply a weak barrel wall at all. Something caused excessive pressures.
