A stock fitter told me that lop is the least important stock measurement and then demonstrated the technique below:
In the case of short lop measurement, extend your gripping hand on the forend by the amount you want to lengthen the lop. I do the opposite during cold weather when I'm wearing bulky clothes. While not perfect, minor lop changes can be made without stock alteration.
