My option would be the full 1 1/2" walnut extension with a butt plate. I don't like recoil pads.
This is on a 16 ga L.C. Smith Specialty Gr., that someone cut the LOP to 12 3/4"

I faux the grain with markers. I did not dress up the end of the original cut stock. It is held on by two wood screws only, in case I want to try and match the two pieces better.
