Howdy Ed:

I ate there for lunch on New Years Day. Had blackeyed peas and chicken-fried steak too.

Plus I got to look at all the interesting guns on the wall.

Regards

In the South for New Years Day, you substitute "Hog Jowl" for the ham hock don't you Ya'll know? And don't forget the "Turnip Greens"

2-Piper - We always have Black-eyes and & Cabbage on New Years Day - The Black-Eyes for luck & the Cabbage for money, in the New Year - the results have been a little iffy over the years.

My Tennesse Great Grandmothers used to cook up turnip greens and crowder peas out of their gardens, along with some pigs feet. What I wouldn't give to eat one of those meals of hers again.

It never ceases to amaze me on how similar cultures are.

The Japanese, of which I'm half, the other half of Missoura/Iwa origin, have a New Year tradition of serving foods thought to give hope for: health, prosperity, virility, luck and happiness (I think I got it all). New Year at my folks house was combination of things like blackeye peas, and little fried baby fish.

My dear Momma (God rest her) made PINK eyed beans and ham hock soup/stew. I seldom see pink eyed beans and when I do, I still buy em. They just flat out taste different (and to me better) than black eyed beans and ham. Jake
