Very nice, When I was buying American custom shotguns I could never find a good McComas for sale. Is his Baltimore address on the rib and are there any proof marks on the barrel?

This gun must be MASSIVE! The first picture shows a nicely proportioned gun, but in the second shot the frame makes the breech look like a 16! What's she weigh?

8's came in several chamber lengths....do you know what hers is ?
Those British proofs along with the quality of the gun to me suggests W & C Scott as a possible English maker ?

Those British proofs along with the quality of the gun to me suggests W & C Scott as a possible English maker ? If you talking about barrel length its 36". Does that mean the barrel was made in England and the rest of the gun was made by Alexander McComas? I often wondered why the guns serial number (2431) did not match the barrel numbers (32312). This might explain the decrepency. Let me know if you would. Thanks,

Jack, most of the early American custom makers imported barrelled actions and stocked and finished them here. There are exceptions to that rule and I don't want to open that can of worms, but the proofs remove doubt that the barrels were imported. I don't think McComas made 2431 guns, so I don't think that's his serial number. I'd bet the action was also imported and that may be a patent use number. There are so many possibilities that it almost makes sense to just accept a nice gun for what it is and not get wrapped up in who made the components - It's a McComas of Baltimore.
