I don't know if I read this on this forum or out of Brownells book. I can't seem to remember things like this any more my wife tells me I am so forgetful lately that I can hid my own Easter eggs this year. Can someone please tell me how to clean up my bench sander to get the rubber, plastic and wood out of it after fitting butt plates or sanding stocks. Any help is always appreciated.

They make a rubber sanding belt cleaner they work pretty good.

Get one of these. They look like giant pencil erasers. I've even used crepe shoe soles with similar results. TerryS http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=5518

In a pinch the old air broom will work but you probably don't want black grime any more places than it is already so the shop vac and the belt "eraser" are the way to go.

For doing a pad fitting, I always use a new disk. Grinding metals dulls the sanding disks and makes fitting a pad more difficult. So, I've not tried to "clean" a disk.

Was your question how to clean the belt or disk? I didn't see that in your post. If so, the giant gum eraser is the answer as some others have said.
