Wouldn't much of this discussion be moot if the PM function worked reliably?
I have purchased two guns through this BBS, one via phone call and the other via PM and email. In both cases, the hardest part of the transaction was establishing initial contact with the seller. Once that was done, everything moved smoothly.

The current sale board creates the "appearance" of a feeding frenzy which the old did not. It's there now for whatever advantage seller or buyer can take as a result. I will say this about the consequences of a conscience regarding "first come." I have put off a few buyers with the statement that I had an interested party to whom I felt I was obligated to wait upon based on the right of precedence. Unfortunately, there are many LookyLous who are very good at presenting themselves as hot to trot in order to produce a layaway without reciprocal obligation. No thanks! It's an auction with a more or less fixed bid and perhaps a few negotiable sweeteners and the buyer gets to bang down the gavel. Let's be honest here. The Comes With the Cash queue is the one where precedence counts for something with both buyers and sellers.

While we're on the subject of the classified section, I don't see any way to edit one's ad.

Why not cut straight to the chase, and post a phone number instead of Email stuff? Eliminate one step, and just go phone calls, money, gun? Much less room for hocus/pocus when you are live, in real time, on the phone. Just a thought. Best, Ted

I really do not see that the new system is that bad. A gun is for sale until an agreement or money reaches the seller. Having sold many items over the net I can tell you that there is a large number of "buyers" who talk a big sale but never finish the sale. I have waited weeks for money and FFL that never arrived. This system should discourage that as the transaction can be seen by many.
Thjose who want to buy without any others seeing their interest only have to buy directly and quickly. I have seen more than one item sold quickly to one person while others were requesting more pictures. If you really wnat the gun pull the trigger on the sale.
