I was recently reminded that I needed to post a review of the G&H recoil pad I bought. I will be purchasing them exclusively frrom now on. The one I got is a red-orange color leaning more orange than red. It will look right at home on any English style rifle or Large bore early American style gun - as well as being equally appropriate for any shotgun. It has the return spur on the top that is common and a nice black spacer made of significantly rigid plastic. My favorite thing about these pads, however, is the screw plugs. The Galazan "Correct Period Pad" and the "Original Silvers Pad" have large plugs approx 1/2" in diameter. This one has plugs approx 1/4" which will make for a more proportioned looking pad on some shorter / smaller stocks. The larger plugs really start to crowd the toe if the butt end isn't full sized heel-to-toe, in my opinion.
Furthermore, the service at Griffin & Howe was spectacular. Without going into too much detail, I talked with Jim Kromka about the order and he was most pleasing - stating at one point that they like to treat all their customers the same, whether they are ordering a Purdey or a recoil pad. Somebody order a Purdey so we can get a comparison of the service.
Anyway, there's the review. I'll be happy to post some pictures, but be patient - the opening weekend of dove season starts in the morning and I have several friends coming in to town to help me get rid of my excess whiskey stock.
