I will have to pull mine out of the safe to be sure, but the only difference I recall is the choke. Both had a painted on grain in the wood and 25 inch barrels and that awful orange "ray bar" sight. The last time I hunted wild quail with that gun, about 1985, I shot 5 times. I shot twice on a covey rise and missed twice. As some birds were flushig wild ahead of the dogs and ran to a lane cut in some planted pines and shot at one crossing the opening. I killed it along with one behind it that I did not see until both fell. Later as a covey flushed in the edge of the field and several of them headed for a dip in the pine trees in the edge of the field I shot once and killed three. Five bird in three shots (five shots if you count the earlier misses) made it a "quail special" in my book even it it was chocked ic/mod. All these fields are now in pines, but they are where I hunted with my father and grandfather. I did flush a covey of young birds a few weeks ago there. There were about 10 half grown birds and only few about 15 yards. I hope they all survive and do well. We burn the plantations but wild quail are few and far between. I regret that my son will never experience what I did in my youth, ten coveys within walking distance of our home. It is a great gun. Mine has been on loan to a good friend in Northwest Ga for the last several years. One of his sons uses it for Grouse hunting and has even killed a turkey with it. He just got a new English setter puppy. He is searching for a good name for the dog now. Any suggestions woudl be appreciaed. I hope it takes many grouse in the years to come. Sorry for the long post.
