I have a friend who had his granddads 12 ga Sterlingworth blow up on him when he was about 14 at the time. The blow up was probably due to a stuck wad. It looked very similar to the pictures shown but it was the left tube. His hand was "scuffed up" a little bit but healed up fine.
When I got interested in double guns later I convinced him to send to Lefever Arms in Lee Center NY to be monoblocked and re-finshed. I think it cost him about $1200 to replace the left tube, reblue, recolor, redo the checkering and wood finish(the forend had split in half and was glued).
He still shoots in sometimes and remembers his granddad when he does.
