gasgunner is a great guy - he was just joking around a bit and so was I.

Thanks Whitey - I can't wait to start shooting her.

I have a couple dummy rounds a friend donated to the cause, but the bullet stretched the case mouth and they dont seat all the way in the chamber. How does a guy go about loading these straight cases? Do you turn the inside of the neck to .458" to hold the bullet? I have yet to make a chamber cast to verify caliber, but am 95% certain the guy I got it from knew.

Hello Bryndon,

Winfer's Vol.4. Westley Richards book is apparently in very short supply indeed. I've spent most of today trying to locate a copy for one of my Alaskan Correspondants. I can find Vol's 3,5, and 6 at Kynock here in England but Vols. 1,2 and 4 seem to have disappeared from sight.

There appears to be a heck of a demand, some of it from people who are simply buying them as an investment. I saw one copy of Vol.6, on the abebooks website for US$ 170.00. That's about three times the original price and it was printed less than a year ago.

It may be possible that Tom Rowe may do a reprint in the future, but I've heard nothing positive in that regard.

Lynn, the finger is getting better, but very slowly. I had the 35 external stitches taken out last week, the other 30 internal stitches will gradually be absorbed. It's never going to be the same again, but at least they didn't have to amputate it.

Harry

Nice cart, Thanks for the pix!

I'd love to see the shape of the barrel at the muzzle, is it round?
What Does the trigger flag do? I think I wrote that the sidelever I photographed had the set-trigger patent, and the lever, but no set-trigger.
I love that clam-shell engraving in front of the lever/guard!

Somewhere around here I have a package full of those "World's Largest Buttplate Screws". When you remove then you'll see what I mean.

Congrats and keep us posted!

Harry,
Always looking on the bright side! You could have ended up on the wrong side of the grass so keep up the smiley face! smile

I have the first 5 books but I guess I didn't even know there was a 6th. I also have Kirton's book along with many others, the same as most of you. Probably they will all get sold when I see the wrong side of the grass for $10 a piece. smile

Bryndon,

Nice rifle, congratulations.

I know little of the British cartridges but all the American ones from this period that were paper-patched all used a BORE diameter bullet. Was this originally a PP round?

SDH,

The flag in the trigger is a trigger block. I'm not sure about the top rib. In one picture it looks like you can see the solder joint and in others it looks like it's integral. Would integral have been common on these?

I ordered the Winfer books Vol 3 & 5 from Track of the Wolf. Figured I better get em before they're gone. Will cruise the gun shows for the other Vols I guess.

This is the fired position for the flag.

That cool transition that Westley did better than anybody.

Here you can see the trigger block interface.

My favorite maker's mark.

another close-up of the clam shell

The rib is a little over 1/2" wide!

LRF:

Where I come from, we refer to these trips as taking the gun for an extended outing. Still fun, even if I never fire a shot.
