I suspect many here, like me own a few of these 700's and CNBC has a special tonight reguarding their trigger issues.May well be a hack job but still worth viewing. They did indeed have some issues and I have had one fire (empty chamber-muzzle in safe direction as always) when bolt was closed and trigger was untouched. http://www.cnbc.com/id/39740539/

I posted this on the other thread but thought some of you might find it interesting.
"Look over on the AR Gunsmithing forum for a rather heated discussion under Remington-Walker triggers, there are two other ancillary discussions.
A well known riflesmith, Jack Belk is one of the prime interviewees, Jack has been crusading against the trigger for years, much to the chagrin of his peers.
I agree it's going to make Remington look bad but I had a 700 FSO (Fire when Safety moved Off) years ago on a javelina hunt. No damage, the muzzle was in a safe direction, but still frightening."

Jack Belk is back on the net? That's interesting. He is a very interesting person to me. But I thought he left the internet, gunsmithing and just about everything to go live on some mountaintop taking care of some rich guy's getaway Shangrila?
Any links to those discussions? AR is a big place to go fishing. Brent

Several years ago a Montana woman shot and killed her son with a 700 safety malfunction. Terrible tragedy!

Agreed-there is indeed a issue, but if strict muzzle control, along with other gun safety rules where adhered to (treat every gun as if its loaded, never point the gun at anything you don't want to shoot, and know your target and whats beyond),lots of these terrible tragedies could have been avoided.

Apparently Jack was incommunicado because of a "forced silence" as he calls it. He has a thread on AR explaining.
Jack did several nice tutorials on line about refinishing receivers and other things, be interesting to see what he has to say tonight.

Of course we all know that Ruger, when faced with a trigger concern, redesigned all of his pistols----and further agreed to modify any pistol returned to the factory at no charge
