As background information, I'm in my 60's, a lifelong hunter of most anything that flies within a thousand miles or so of Colorado. If I were to meet you today, I'd eventually tell you I consider myself a lifelong mediocre shot. Some rudimentary measurements:

SKB--A pistol grip 12 ga. o/u single trigger, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 2" at heel with 30" bbls. No cast apparent to my eye. As said, my "go to" gun for the 15 or so years I've owned it. I've shot everything from ptarmigan to turkeys with this gun and have never owned any other gun that I've shot nearly as well.

RBL--A straight hand 20 gal s/s double trigger, 1 1/2" drop at comb, 2 1/8" at heel with 28" bbls. A bit of cast off to my eye, maybe 1/8 to 1/4". I bought this gun this summer after agonizing nearly 2 years between an RBL and a 20 ga. Parker Repro. I'm retired and need ALL my disposable income to finance those hunting trips!

Did I mention, on the afore mentioned pheasant hunt, my Springer pup realized what the hell was going on and made several nice flushes and a number of nifty retrieves?

Steve

I'm 5-10 and stocky. My OU's fit me just right at 14 1/8, but my SxS feels a little short with its 14 1/2 lOP.

You will find a s/s very different to an o/u particularly as I suspect it is very lighter and faster. I have an o/ u AyA Coral double trigger, cast on that fits me very well and is now my go to gun. Although for many years I did n't get on with it - one day I stopped trying and then just clicked. Also gave a very lightweight WJ jeffery S/s 410 with a nearly 15" stock. A joy to carry and great for short range snap shooting. Also recently got an old AyA no3 magnum with 30" barrels. Hav had it cast on but may need to have stock bent up a touch to raise the comb a bit. But the snap shot a couple of snip last weekend so probably OK. I think a new gun does take a while to settle in and become part of you.

after reading every coaching text on the planet that I could get holda, and running thru all the advice with an adjusto stock, Yardley's comment seems to hold the most water - or as much as any. The stock should be long enough to keep your nose off of your trigger hand. The obvious reason being that the shorter the stock the faster you can turn as the center of mass for the gun/shooter system (which is all that REALLY matters Rocketman haha)is more compact - And it really does make a difference - ain't been everywhere but I never saw a long stock at a pigeon ring or a bunker.
I know the old wives' methods are better of course so these PBS are just FWIW
