All the Herrett's of this style are ugly colored, (although I think the color of your photo is off a bit?) Here are mine (with a newer 1970's Kit Gun I inherited from my Dad and am giving to my pregnant niece, eventually for their son) and my favorite J-Frame Don Hume holster. And BTW, the newer/older K-gun did misfire a few times double-action the other day with Mexican (Can you believe it!!??) Eley.
I've got too many real projects to mess much with staining, please let me know if it works out I might try it? I'd try alcohol stain right over the finish, then top-coat.
