Dustin, my Sauer is pushing a century old. I'll forgive it for the hair it's off in bolt fit.
A Greener requires a rib extension between the barrels, which obviously does not work on an OU. The similarity to a Kersten, which has extensions on the sides of the barrels, is that both have bolts which protrude from the frame when the gun is opened (on both sides, in the case of the Kersten) and engage extensions off the barrels when the gun is closed.

How much taper does a Greener bolt have & what prevents ir sticking??. When D M Lefever left the LAC & began building the New Cross Bolt gun he used a tapered bolt, but also inserted a stop screw from the opposite side to prevent it wedging in & binding. Anyone who has ever removed a tapered pin or a tool from the tailstock of a lathe will understand the value of this. I had always just assumed the Greener bolt was straight as were many of its copiers.

I made new Greener bolts just slightly tapered, but the hole on barrels extension straight, its not Moses cones and on guns it works OK.

THe square cross bolt was as far as I know "Scots Improved Cross bolt" I was taught as an apprentice by Birminghan Trade workers ,some who had worked for Greener ,that the cross bolt should only bear on the bottom and rear of the extention hole,so it pulled back and down the rest should be clear but only just.Otherwise it could actualy hold the barrel off the face.

Right gunman, my fault, it was Scott Improved Greener Bolt, my bible says Greener-Scott Cross Bolt. Also I found in the same bible two fine drawings of hammer Purdey double and Scott double with square bolts. In Bitkoff catalog of 1912 I found several guns with square bolt made by Aug.Lebeau, ManuFrance, Lepage in Liege, F.Demulen, Pieper.

I wish I could take better photos, this is not a very nice picture of a very nice gun. I have both a 12 ga and a 20 ga, the 12 has a "coin" finish, the 20 has a color case hardened finish.
