Solomon said it best...."there is nothing new under the sun". Historically there are many examples of dished out stocks in museums all over the place. I have even seen dished out places in crossbow stocks in block prints from the early Germanic and English contests of marksmanship. All of this to say....this method is used to make a spot on the stock consistant for shooting sight alignment and comfort of repeated use/enjoyment.
