My original post was to get some input on who the gunmaker was, as evidenced by his "signature" of NBF on the stock under the heel plate. I was sure somebody would chime in and mention they own a gun with the same markings and that it was definitely built by "X", in this case "Fashingbauer". RJH and Steve have posted their opinions, thanks guys; any more thoughts are welcome, but I guess we'll consider "possibly attributed to Fashingbauer" the judgment for now.

Craig, if you have access to old Gun Digests, you can look in the Custom Gun section and see several of N.B. Fashingbauer's guns. These guns may confirm the suspicion that this is one of his guns.

Here's a M70 rifle in discussion over the engraving,,but the metal work is Fashingbauers (Norbert "Nubs" Fashingbauer in their words!)according to the thread. Note the tang safety.
