I believe the inertia trigger was intended to make doubling less likely. The mechanical type is generally preferred by skeet shooters because if there is a misfire or shell in the wrong chamber, a second pull will get the shot off, preventing a lost bird. Most(not all) mechanical triggers use an inertia mechanism also, even though it is not necessary to set the trigger. for the second shot. It's explained by people who study such things that there is an involuntary small trigger pull between the first and second deliberate pulls. This second pull is probably caused by the gun bouncing back off the shoulder, after the recoil and bumping the trigger against the trigger finger. The inertia mechanism prevents this action from firing at that time. My preference for all types of shooting would be a mechanical trigger. JL

Excellent explanation.
Is there a way to disconnect the inertial to act as a mechanical??

Yes but I don't know exactly how they do it. Gunsmiths like Joe Shiozaki, of J & S Air Cushion can do it. It's frequently done when adding sub gauge tubes. JL

My recollection is that an inertia blocked type of trigger can be rigged in the 'unblock' position, allowing it to switch to the other sear. On inertia switched designs, I don't know what is done or if they are modified to mechanically switch.
