I am interested in obtaining a Sedgley 03 which is marked on the barrel 22WCF. An old price list from Petrov's book shows their caliber listing as 22WCF(Hornet). From this and from a, put a bullet in the end of the barrel, test. I think it is a Hornet and also think due to the vintage a .223" Winchester barrel. It is in nice shape and I am trying to negotiate the purchase.

Does anyone think I am close on the caliber and barrel diameter and what about a price. Again nice gun no extra holes. Probably not as nice as Mike P,s but nice enough for me.

G.B. Should be an early .22 Hornet with diameter of .223 with a 1 in 16 twist if the original barrel. Price?... whatever the market will bare, given condition. If a standard grade rifle, $1750 [IMHO] tops; unless mint. If a Mannlicher, that's another story...I have a mint, special order Mannlicher Carbine in 300 Savage. I have been offered far more than I ever thought possible Hope this helps! Jerry

Sedgley marked .22WCF is the Hornet. I think all the later ones had "Hornet" under "CAL-.22WCF".

Anything under $1500 is a good price. All .22 caliber custom rifles have a premium over other calibers.

If you can, run a tight patch down the bore and make sure it's smooth.

It would have to be better than mine because I no longer have one ;-).

Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts. It came home with me for an M1 Carbine($850). The the Sedgley serial # is 246 and I am sure it is a 1933 Winchester Hornet barrel. They were .223".

It has the Lyman 48 and had a Lyman 17 on the front but that is off now and replaced with a proper sight. D&T for Unertl mounts but no other holes. The interior looks just like the one Mike posted pics of but mine is not marked Hornet under the 22WCF. The action is an old one which was #46067 and that # appears on the back of the bolt handle. The rifle started out as a Rod Bayonet rifle and the small letters with serifs are still on it as is the serial #. The Sedgley serial # is under the barrel just in front of the action and also on the stock just behind the recoil lug.

Stock is a little darker than Mike's but seems a bit above average of the Sedgleys I have seen. Can't wait to shoot it but winter around here being what it is might be spring.
