Why would anyone use ersatz black powder when the Real McCoy is available?

Lack of smell, cleaning up and smoke is my guess.

You have to have the smoke and stink to make it all worth while.

My gun has cylinder bores, no choke. I find that with the right combination of shot, wads and powder I get good patterns out to 30 yards.

Hard-to-clean Black Powder is a myth. If you don't believe me check out a DGJ Ross Seyfried article from about 10 years ago, or call him at his ranch. I have quite a bunch of BP guns and they clean up lickety-split with soapy water. Shooting smokeless in rifles, revolvers, pistols and yes, shotguns takes a LOT more cleaning time and effort, if you do it right. Leading in those barrels is the icing on the time-use cake. And besides, the smell of BP out in the open woods is great.

I love BP, easy soap and water cleanup and the shock and awe from the KABOOM and 6' flame from the end of the gun barrel make it a hoot to shoot!

I'm not sure if I just did you a favor or not.
