Indeed, Glenn, but then it would be too short in the summer and the Pachmyer would not go back on.
And, while Gus is worth it, the gun is not.
I need a new gun! hmmmmm...
Still would be nice to have a hard rubber plate for that gun. All I have is a Marlin replacement plate - UGLY.

Brent, Looks like you had a great time anyway. I recall buying some hard rubber buttplates from Brownells. They seemed pretty well made. No holes

I've bought a number of plain, generic butt plates from Brownells. They come in various sizes, are inexpensive and just grind to fit.

I ordered a couple of plates from Brownell's for those Spanish guns I mentioned, but wasn't thrilled with the looks. As soon as CSMC had some RBL plates available, I got those.

There is no sacrifice too great for someone else to make.

With this gun, just about any clothing more than a regular weight shirt is likely to do that. That said, these jackets were not particularly bulky, so I wasn't looking like a polar explorer out there, but yes, I was over-insulated in retrospect. However, consider also that it is a goodly distance from the truck at times and if I twisted a knee or broke a leg, I'd probably be hypothermic pretty damn fast out there too, so erring on the high side isn't a bad idea. When hunting hard and long, one can find that extra layer pretty comfortable when one stops for a bit of a rest or during that long slog back to the truck against the wind and as the sun goes down. In the end, there is no prefect solution other than MORE GUNS. I need a 3-layer gun, a 4-layer gun, etc.... And my poor wife seems to think that just one gun for each day of the week and two spares for holidays should be enough!

Brent, A few diamonds for the wife would help with changing her mind about how many guns are necessary.
For warm clothing, I like to keep an eye on the ski clothing, because that's where the technology is. But lately, some of the hunting clothing is getting pretty good too. The high tech stuff seems to be thinner and lighter than the old tech stuff.

My wife collects horses and dogs, not diamonds...
I've been wearing some fleece with windblocking features as well as good ol down.
Time to get after the deer. My flintlock awaits.
