I bought one of my Lefevers like that but the most of it came off with acetone. More stuborn spots I removed with paint remover. I took gun apart to make sure wood will not come in contact with it. There were some area like on rib grooves I had to use brass brush to get it out of the grooves after it softened from the acetone. I tried it first on small spot covered by foreend just in the case it would do some bad think to the metal. No problem at all. It looks good now. I would be carefull not to try it on the whole gun before the test.
