Well, I knew i had seen that loading ramp treatment somewhere.   Michael, hope you don't mind I stole one of your pictures. Am I getting warm? Can anyone here do a SRS check on that ser #. I have a hunch that it started life as a NRA sporter. John

Could it have been made as a right hander first then modified later by an outfit that specialized in lefties complete with a new receiver? Everything looks really familiar then that number gets in the way. The floorplate engraving looks like early Kornbrath to me.
Correction. I missed where they said the number dates to 1923.

W.E. Dute was issued his patent in July of 1925. He applied for it Feb 1924. I think it would be safe to assume he was making some of them while he was was waiting for the patent to be issued. This would match the time line when the suspected stockmaker was working.
I would like to know the LOP of the rifle, looks kinda short. Other than that, I like it. Well, other than that whole wrong handed thing.

Edited to add that this is based on info Michael posted a few months back. Just wanted to make sure the credit is given where due. I ain't smart enough to find that stuff myself.

1903 #1258179 is not on my SRS Sales list but 1258180 is an NRA Sporter that sold on 8-18-23.
Additional: Gasgunner, On my SRS info I found NRA Sporters listed as sold as early as April 1923. The Style T rifles may also be shown with the SPT code on SRS records. It could be that the early 1923 sales are for a Style T. I have not taken time to research when the Style T was introduced.

Thanks Herschel. I'll check mine when I get home, but it seems that one of my sporters is very close to that number as well. Several references I found on the web listed 1924 as the first year for Sporter sales.
