As the Frenchies and the Belgies share a common language, Acier is French for Steel- Tin? You have me puzzled there. Tin is NOT an alloying element into steel, no matter the AISI numberical code--

I can't see the photo, but I'm guessing that the "TIN" has nothing to do with the metal tin. French for the English word "tin" is either etain or fer blanc. My guess is that "TIN" is an abbreviation for something.

Who is the maker of the gun? There may be some association between the abreviation TIN and the maker's name, althgough more probably it refers to the steel maker as in "Acier Cockerel"..

Aha--acier fin. Should have thought of that. Means "fine steel". It refers to the quality, not the composition. Lots of descriptive words attached to "acier" on both French and Belgian guns.
