Joe, I hand wrote the envelopes for the invitations to my son Nicolas' wedding last August.
They did look special.

Used an inexpensive Sheaffer fountain pen with a wide nib. In spite of the
fact I have terrible handwriting I managed some rather elegant penmanship.
Could not have done it with a ball point.

I use a fountain pen to take notes while on the computer. It helps my handwriting.

I still use fountain pens, kind of like side by sides, they were meant to write with. I have carried a Parker Model 75 for almost 25 years. The old Parker 51's are great. Have one of the big Mont Blac's my father brought me back from Hong Kong back when they were less than $100. Ink can be hard to find but Pharney's (sp) in DC still carries it and can make repairs as well. My aunt has my grandmothers origional "Big Red", a true classic. My handwriting is still awful (got a D in 5th grade) but still love to use a real pen

Here's the one you need......Surefire EWP-01.

For around $100 you get a pen that will take virtually any cartridge, a Kuboton, a pocket dagger and an emergency window smasher that will easily double as a terrorist or perpetrator skull fracturer. And......TSA will let you pass the checkpoint with it.

I kinda still like a pencil, myself. Sharpened with my pocketknife.

May God bless America and those who defend her.
