I was at my favorite quail patch today with Jas and my brother-in-law. I used my 410 all day for the first time. In the past, I've just used it for a bird or two and put it away. Today, I gave it a full chance to show me what it could do. But, I have to admit, I cheated a little. I used Fed 11/16 oz 3" mags.

This gun knocked 'em down for me as well as my 20g guns have done all season. I bagged 6 today in the brush covered razorbacks. I gained a lot of respect for this little gun today.

Awesome. I have been thinking about a .410 as a dedicated quail gun, especially for pen raised birds.

For a good shot getting out often to keep skills up, yes, it's all you need for your quarry. It is still, however, an expert's gun, Chuck. And yours is a jewel. Good going.

I've had this gun, a Lefever Nitro, for about 5-6 yrs now but really didn't think I was capable of using it all that well. So, it was a 'safe queen' mostly, although I'd shot quite a bit of skeet with it over the years.

The last couple years I've been using it more and more for my wild bird hunting. I took a single wild phez with it a year or so ago. But the wild quail where I hunt are earned in terms of miles per bird, at least this year. So, tacking on the additional challenge of a .410 never seemed appealing. Besides, I'm not a particularly good game shot.

But this year bro-in-law and I had been out quite a bit and we've developed a knack for finding birds even on days they seem to have vanished. I've had my fair share of birds in the bag this year and more than my share of shot opportunities. So, I figured it was time to give it a fair shake. It is, after all, all about having a good time. I'm hooked now. Might be another 410 in my future.

Chuck that is a very fine looking lefever .410. I once saw a "customized" Stevens 311 .410ga that had been fully engraved in oak leaves, sure was beautiful, but I like yours more. Dont know much about those nitro specials, but I can imagine that yours has also been "customized"? Only reason I say this is because the only Nitro Specials Ive seen have been, well, nothing more then Nitro Specials!
