At SHOT Show, I looked at an Anson and Deeley boxlock made in Pakistan. The importer had 2 or 3 of them in the booth. They were quite well made and had really nice wood. They looked like they had been handled a lot. They had the feel of a well made gun. The recievers were polished shiney, but the screws were case hardened. The barrels were not monoblocked. 12 gauge only, double triggers. I took the barrels off one of them and it really looked like it was well made. One of the guys at the importer told me that they were case colored inside and aparently polished to make them more attractive to the "American Market" He said that they were very well made inside. I would have estimated that they would sell for over $1,000.00 The guy told me they would retail for $400.00
I have a picture and if someone will email me, I will send it to them to post. The wood looks like it would cost $400.00
By the way, the S&W side by side looks good to me. I wouldn't buy it, but as many have said, people on this board are not the target market. It looked to me to be at least as high quality as the RBL, (I know I'll get it for that statement.) There was a S&W invester standing there, and at his suggeston we took the barrels off. It really looked nice under there. We got chewed out by a young guy working the booth for doing it though. He chewed me out and the Invester tried to tell him that it was his idea but eventually we both just walked off.
The Franchi entry into the side by side market is a joke. It has a checkered butt with phillips screws holding the plug in.
The Remington actully looked pretty good. I don't think they really expect to sell a ton of them, but it was a lot nicer than the Franchi. It's made by Zabala
I don't need another 12 gauge, but If I needed a shooter I would try the Pakistani gun. One of the guys there told me that I might be able to get a loaner to review.
Best, Dick
