My brother-in-law showed up yesterday at 4:30 in the morning for a quail hunt with this neat little gift for my dog. I'd already gotten Jas to drink from a bottle with my finger over the end to control the flow while I pour. But this bottle saves water by not having so much waste. Also a good solution for those dogs that won't drink from a bottle. The 'trough' folds along side the bottle like a clamshell and it fits in the same space as a normal bottle.

Chuck - Cool design, thanks for sharing this. I haven't seen it in catalogs, do you know who carries it?

Just train your dog to drink from a regular water bottle with the pull-style nipple cap on it. Like those used by bicyclists, or as is often seen on bottled water for sale in convenience stores. Done correctly, there will be little waste, no mess, huge convenience, and a happy dog. Our dogs get watered every 30 minutes or less if need be.
The trick is to teach your dog to use the bottle while tilting his head back. Put the nipple in back by his molars and it's all good from there. My wife taught her dog this trick when we started hunting him - slickest method around.

It's made by New Angle Pet Products and sold by a number of internet pet supply stores. Here's one. http://www.pet-dog-cat-supply-store.com/...0PET%20PRODUCTSBrent, My dog will drink from a regular water bottle and I wouldn't have bought this, but it was a gift and I thought some of the bbs members may find it useful for dogs that are particularly sloppy drinkers from bottles or won't learn. Nevertheless, it works well and takes no more room than a regular waterbottle.

I'm working on getting my little sweetheart to hold the bottle while drinking. Wish me luck.

I have one just like it. It's called a gulpy, and it is awesome. You just whip it out from your vest and my dog finds it very easy to drink from, and there's not all the wasted water you get when just using a bottle, which is very important on hot days, when water is at a premium.

I must have been born in a different world (tin cup on a nail over the watering trough) as I never buy this stuff but my wife bought the same little bottle/trough for Sissy the Grey. Has a snap shackle and I got used to hanging it on the steel grid which creates the "separate compartment" in the 4runner so it's always there and now I like it better than a plastic jug or bike cage bottle (for the dog, not me). Wife also has the wonderful chambered bowl which won't spill even upside down which she keeps on the deck in her car. I fear we WILL die with all the dog toys!

Jack, My pup has toys all over the yard and house. I took her out to the culdesac island in our street to play with her the other day and she walked directly over to a tree and pulled a toy out of the crotch of it. And the thing is, I haven't bought one toy myself.
