Would anyone know what markings or stamps there would be on a Greener indicating that it has 3 inch chambers?
Thanks very much for any and all help....

I believe there would be chamber markings on the bbl flats. The length for 3" should be 76mm I believe with an ounce and a half proof most likely.

If the gun dates from 1887-1925, you'd have 12 over LC inside a diamond. From 1925 into the 80's, it would be marked 3". Chamber length in MM would not appear unless the gun was made (or submitted for reproof) since the late 80's. So should be pretty easy to tell, unless the chambers were punched to 3" and the gun not submitted for reproof.

This gun has 12 over just "C" in the diamond, which I'm sure meant regular 2 3/4" chambers. It also shows proof for 1 1/4 oz. shot, which I'm told is also a 2 3/4 indicator. I really wanted this gun, but the chambers measure 3", so it sure looks like someone decided to create their own "magnum". Goes to show that one can't always tell by inspecting the bore....there is no sign at all of anyone having messed with the chambers. Thanks for the help.

Hello Tombigbee I have a question on your chamber measurement. How was it done, Do you mean a 3' loaded shell will fit in the gun. or Was a chamber gauge used or Was a chamber cast made. Please assist Thanks Mike

Please assist Thanks Mike I do not know the answer to your question. I took the word of the seller, who has certainly been around these types of guns for a long while. That does not mean, however, that he knew what he was doing, or did not simply make an error. It really shows absolutely no sign of any work having been done in the chambers. I suppose there are those skilled enough to polish out such, though. Any suggestions on how to next proceed will be appreciated.

Hello For a start, I would have the chamber remeasured. What is your locality? Mike

If the seller deals in doubleguns regularly, it would seem odd he'd tell you it's 3" if it isn't, especially since it's not marked as 3". But you never know.

(maybe one of you guys can blow this pic of the gun up) This gun has 12 over just "C" in the diamond, which I'm sure meant regular 2 3/4" chambers. It also shows proof for 1 1/4 oz. shot, which I'm told is also a 2 3/4 indicator. Thew 12 over C in the diamond has nothing to do with chamber length...I do agree that the 1 & 1/4 oz proof for shot is a 2 & 3/4" chamber indicator but with a gun of that age anything is posible.
