Hi guys,

I've not seen this before so far in my learned restoring. It appears to be a screw holding the forend metal piece in but with know screw head. I don't want to bugger this up clearly and I was wondering if someone might help with how to get it unscrewed/out?

I would take a thin hacksaw blade or screw cutting file and cut a screw slot across the head. It looks like it would have to be perpendicular to the usual orientation. No room to cut it in line with the forend wood. Hope this helps.

That looks tricky to get off mate,
without removing a little wood to allow that longer than wide, un-slotted "Head" to unwind .That screw has to be turn out somehoo.HHmmm!
Perhaps remove as little wood as possible,lightly slot the screw remove.Then you could drill out for a matching wooden plug to seat the head,after its been rounded up & slotted.Then I guess you'd have to file & sand everthing to a pleasing shape & contour .
Or just work around the damn insert !!

That head part is kind of rectangular isn't it?
or will it turn as is if slotted?

I would suggest, bore a hole in the centre and use a screw removal tool.

The screw head has a ridge in the middle.
This is the same as a slot in reverse.
Make a turning tool to match the ridge and apply
the needed pressure to prevent the tool from
climbing the ridge. Same as a screw, just in reverse.
