I have been trying to sell some 12 gauge guns lately and no bites. I feel I have priced them accordingly and not looking to make money just re-coup and move on. But no bites! I have been told 12 gauge guns are not selling and more small gauge guns are. Is this because the baby boomers like me are getting older? Or are more and more people just looking at small gauge guns? At the club where I shoot you still see plenty of 12's but recently some of the guys have been shooting small gauges. So what's going on out there?

Well, I own three classic 12 gauges, a custom Fox that was born as a ejector Sterlingworth in 1913, a Parker VH made in 1900 and an early Fox pin gun. However, in the past three or so years, I've bought five 16 gauge and two 20 gauge classic guns.
Don't believe I'm unusual for those who tend to hunt more Grouse/Woodcock then anything bigger. Yesterday I hunted in Virginia's National Forests and climbed those mountains for 2 hours. I was very happy to only be lugging a 5 lb 12 oz Fox SW 20 gauge then something bigger and heavier. Even that Fox felt like it weighted ten pounds by the time I was done. Lighter is indeed better when you start having less tread on the tires.

This thread reminds me of the articles in the seventies in the gun magazines like 'Guns and Ammo" when the gun writers ran out of new things to write about: IS THE 44 MAGNUM STILL KING? IS THE 30-30 WINCHESTER DEAD? GOODBY TO THE 270 WINCHESTER?
Don't think the 12 gauges are dead, Palunc, as my friend Terry from BC remarked, wallets are closed for the duration Mike

I brought 3 shotguns to the last gun show here in January. A 12 O/U,a 16 O/U,and a 20-870 pump. I sold the 12 and the 20 and ended up bringing the 16 0/U home.

I've got a whole stable of 12 gauge gun but lately the only ones that really interest me are 16's. Smaller frame, lighter weight, and I'm getting older. Besides, for every 12 there are probably one 16, or something like that. Now, if you happen to have a pristine 12 English hammer gun for sale.........call me!
P.S. Four days ago the Texas Panhandle dropped to -5 to -20 real temperatures. Today we're near 70 and looking for about 80 this coming week. Wierd.
