The quality of steel used in the barrels has greatly improved in the last 150 years. I suppose that could make a difference. I just read a Doublegun Journal article that stated an English cartridge company shot a million rounds through a Boss and the bores only increased 0.001" or one thousandth. I don't know which Doublegun but it was one of the first four.

I know Humpty asked about the choke and what I read was about the bore.
