'seems like the new system averages the stars shown next to a members name. That being the case, if someone has...say 5 stars from one recommendation, then gets a 1 star recommendation from another member because he liked a post from the member, his gold stars go to a middle ground of 2-3 stars. If on the otherhand, members that really hate a member's post, don't recommend any stars to that member, he retains a full 5 star rating. Go figure. So, if you want to downgrade a multi-star rated member, give him a single star!

I think gunut must be correct in these days of modern materials. I think it was invented as a result of paranoia of the barrels coming apart on the gun much like all the other double backup stuff on some designs. Greener lugs on top of double underlug lockups and the like. Feel good stuff.

Sideclips were meant to limit side to side motion. In effect it was another means to make the action stronger. It was usuall limited to guns meant for much heavier loads like live bird guns. And as pointed out by another they tend to be as sharp as heck with a great place to trim a finger tip back if not careful.

Cut fingers and other faults----They are sexy as all get out !!!!! Very difficult to file, usually on great guns, they are an effect that seems to be coveted. Best, John

I agree, they do look great, especially fitting on a highly embellished gun. Kinda out of place on a plain gun.
From a machinist's point of view, it seems like guns are a 'contest' in 'how hard can we make this cut or that feature'. I suppose that's what makes them attractive, to me at least.

I believe when you give someone stars it removes one of yours! Bobby

I have shot guns with sideclips for years and still have all my fingers! In fact I have never even needed a Band-Aid!
Have any of you cut your self on sideclips? Or is this an urban legend started be envious shooters without sideclips.
